Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning

I teach reasoning workshops via a partnership with Yellowbird Education. Please see their website for more details and bookings.

My Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning workshops are designed to teach children how to approach reasoning questions.

All too often I see my students approaching reasoning papers with random guessing, having been given no guidance on how to tackle the questions. Whilst it is true that some children have a natural ability to spot patterns, that does not mean that those who don't are a lost cause - they simply need to be shown the way!

During the workshops, we will work through each type of reasoning question as a group; I will explain the method and approach required for each type of question, and highlight the patterns to look for. The children will then have time to answer questions on their own, with me available to help them through.

There are some key concepts that I will focus on, which will help the children to succeed with reasoning. These include:

  • Verbal Reasoning: Numerical pattern recognition; identifying verb vs noun forms; identifying homophones; code breaking.

  • Non-Verbal Reasoning: Applying the spatial operations of rotation, reflection & translation; scale and proportion; multi-step operations.

Your child will be joined by up to 7 other students, from a number of schools across London, with a maximum of 8 students in a group. Every child will have ample opportunity to ask questions and work at their own pace, whilst benefiting from the thoughts and questions of other members of the group.
